Hi, I have 5 chicks who are 9 weeks old. 2 are silkies and one of those is a roo (not the surprise I wanted!!!!) I have been in denial because he is so little...smallest of the bunch! But his comb and waddles are on full display!!! He is the tan one pictured below.

My questions:
Are Silkie roosters normally so little? We have a female (white) the same age and she is much bigger. Will the roo catch up in size?

Our two silkies like to hang together. Since I can’t keep this roo due to having neighbors to close to our coop, should I plan on replacing him with another Silkie so that our white one has a buddy? Is that impt for silkies (ie. our 2 don’t roost with the others at night. They sleep together on a shelf.

i have a second roo, an Easter egger. Is it best to try to rehome them now or wait until they are a little bigger?

thanks! This is my first rodeo, as the saying goes!!!

They are adorable! If you could, it would be nice for her to have a silkie friend. As for how long to keep the little cockerel, that’s up to you. You can start looking for a home now if you like, and when’s he I still older give him away. My advice would be to not leave it to the last minute. If you like you can keep him until he crow, usually between 4 and 5 months.

Silkies are a small breed (bantam) so yes, they are usually small, up to 1.5kg. They are still ver you young now so I would guess that the roo will grow up bigger than the pullet. They really struggle to fly, so if you can, a very low perch is nice. Just make sure it’s not right below the higher perches or they might get pooped on!

I've had silkies that were small almost bantam size and I've had larger ones so I I assume roosters can come in both sizes as well. If his leg length is short he'll probably be on the smaller size; mine were. He could also catch up and out grow her if maybe he was from a different batch of eggs.
