I talked to our state vet today here in MO. he said Missouri did not have any plans to require health certificates. he said people that exhibit fowl monitor their birds very closely and would be the least of his worries as far a spreading disease. our NPiP is free here
Amy trying to get ahold of you tonight. I got a call from Eric Kutch who filled me in on a conversation between the MN State Vet and our ABA Pres. Jeff H. The vet informed Jeff that you have made all this up and it is business as usual. No health cert. or re testing is required, that our NPIP Cert. is just fine or our testing papers. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I will be making my own phone calls to confirm this an get it in writing for Cara & James so they can drive 12 hours to the show without any problems at the door. Heads up on politics in clubs, lol It will bite you in the a** every time. Cara & I are well aware you did not make this up, I am sorry the club is so stressful right now. I will pick up Eric as that is his wish, lol Cara & I are very excited to pick his brain on poultry. If you need me to clerk that is not a problem.
Just getting on the computer now. I think that vet that Halbach talked to apparently doesn't know the new rules yet then. They have them totally clear on the MN Board of Animal Health website too. Please talk to Dr. Ziemer, BAH coordinator to confirm this. I also forwarded on e-mails from the testor for the big sale in Jackson confirming this too.
Dr Zeimer is the guy I had talked to at the time that said my NPIP papers would be fine 9-2, however, they are 43 days done but need to be 30. He thought it would be fine, but I cannot drive 12 hours for a thought. He also did say that the health cert was necessary. Guess we will see what Connie finds out. I guess find out what vet Halbach talked to so we can talk to him.
I would love to know what vet thinks "I am making this up" too. The NPIP 9-3 form is allowable for In-state birds under 5 months of age. The only thing that might apply to is a few of the birds in the for sale section. Here is the link to the MN BAH import laws: http://www.bah.state.mn.us/bah/rules/import-regulations.html and here is requirements for exhibition: http://www.bah.state.mn.us/bah/rules/exhibition-rules.html#poultry . If you read under Out of state origin, it clearly states that all poultry must follow import regulations. Poultry greater than 5 months old must have a current CVI and pullorum test within 30 days. For birds under 5 months old, you must have an import permit and a disease classification for the poultry as listed above (current pullorum), supported by a CVI, NPIP Form VS 9-3 or equivalent form. How am I making this up? This is right off their website and out of the mouth of the BAH coordinator too.
well, a lot of states have their "rules" but MANY states are very lax with following through. Its like shows, you are supposed to write your band numbers ON your ENTRY FORM. Who does this? I wanna know cause NONE of the ones I ever get for my show in April ever has band numbers on them.
All I know is that Dr. Dale Lauer, director of the MPTL, called our show secretary and I confirmed it with Dr. Ziemer who is the MN BAH coordinator. Apparently they are not going to be lax on the rules at all this fall. If our club doesn't enforce their rules, we can't have our show. This applies to birds brought into MN for other shows, swaps, auctions, etc too. I also got off the phone with Eric Kutch again this morning. It is Jeff Halbach spreading that rumor. Maybe the vet he talked to wasn't aware of the recent changes....
Personally I don't care if you don't get tested or a vet check at all. All I ask is that you get a letter from Dr. Ziemer confirming that whatever paperwork you do have is ok. Turn that in and we will both have our butts covered when they are checking paperwork.
I emailed you direct Cara and will talk on Friday for the uncensored version, lol Amy, great chat this morning, no idea how you keep your cool with some of these people. Jeff H. does need to be updated on the truth, he seems to be hearing a taylored version and I would hate out of state poultry people to get stuck with paying for hotel rooms or worse driving out an having to go home right away. UGH
Eric has been updated as well, hopefully him & Art will have some birds to judge. After that talk with the vet MN waterfowl breeders better watch out, I did not hear a rational thing come from that vets mouth when it comes to waterfowl. They seem to have an agenda and it is not good for exhibition breeders. I will pick up Eric and help you at the show Amy, but after this I will move my flock to my new state and have no intention of going back.
