My Silkie rooster has been attacking his hens lately. He's not breeding them either. Not as much as he should anyways. My hens have layed a couple dozen eggs and set and set and set and gave up. Then they kick out all the bad eggs and start over and those don't hatch either. One hen finally hatched 5 chicks and the rooster killed all but 2 of them. Those are the first Silkie chicks I've gotten out of 8 hens and 1 roo all year. All are between one and two years old except the hen that hatched the chicks who is 3 years old.
There are peafowl in the pen which were put in there last fall as 2 month old chicks. They'll be released to be free range this week but the Silkies and peafowl always ignore each other. The Silkies are the bossy ones and are always picking on them actually. They never interact with each other besides that.
I have an Orpington rooster that's free range. They can see each other and have been able to for over a year. This whole thing with attacking the hens is new though.
I've asked people and no one knows what his deal is. I'm going to separate him today and give him away unless I can figure it out soon.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have no idea what is causing this behavioral aberration, but I would replace him in a heartbeat. Low fertility and the possibility of passing on a genetic trait for hen aggressiveness in my flock? NO WAY!
