O-HI-O ♥
I have a 1.5 year old silkie paint roo, that has been holding his head upside down and between his legs. I have been hand feeding him and watering him for 2.5 weeks. I have also been giving poly vi sol and vitamin e for 2.5 weeks with no sign of improvement. Is there anything else I can do for him? I can get him to hold his head up for about 10 seconds at a time to get some food or water, then it seems like his has some sort of seizure and his head goes right back down. It is hard for him to drink water even when i get his head up because he cant tilt his head back, he also makes some gurgling noises when trying to drink. I have been reading the threads that say to give poly vi sol and vitamin e with success. But i am not having any luck with it. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thank you!

How much of each of the vitamins have you been using?

Have you introduced any new chickens in the last 6 months?

Ok, up the dose on the poly vi sol to .5mls per day. Make sure you are giving 400ius of vitamin E twice daily. That is the correct doseage for an adult bird per my poultry vet. I hope this makes the difference!!!

Some people even add a bit of selenium to the mix...some vets say that it will help in the absorption of the other vitamins.

Thank you so much. I will up the dosage! Do you know how long is usually takes them to recover from this??

You should see signs of recovery in a couple days or, it can take up to 2 weeks. Add some extra protein...mealworms, scrambled egg to his meals to up his protein and help him fight this. I hope he improves for you. I hate having sick chickens, it makes one feel so helpless :(

I have been giving the poly and vit e for 2.5 weeks so hopefully upping the dose helps him. I feel so bad he just sits with his head between his legs. He has also been eating scrambled eggs a lot. Thank you for your help!!!

I really hope this helps. If you don't see improvement, you might want to switch to a b complex vitamin.

I am not an expert, but as far as I know, selenium Deficiency or Vitamin E Deficiency can can cause these symptoms. Maybe you can do some search on it.
