I have 8 LF pullets and added 3 young silkies. My sweetheart of sweethearts among the silkies has now crowed. I plan to keep him, barring fits thrown by neighbors. I know nothing about breeding chickens, but I see posts about silkie crosses. Can my silkie roo successfully breed with my LF RIRs, BRs, and BOs (when they are all old enough of course)? If so, what would the offspring look like?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the other 2 silkies

i think he could i have heard of smaller bantams breeding LF. i think silkie crosses are the coolest! tehy r very inteeresting

He sure can and will. It does not work very well the other way around. LF roo on Bantam hen is dangerous for your hens but I used to have several Barred Rock Silkie cross chicks. I also had a RIR/Bantam Faverolle cross.

Awesome! I had no intention to have a roo, but he's here and I really love him! He will, for sure, be the only one that stays... even if another one sneaks up on me

I guess we have to get past all the introductions first (before there's any mating). The silkies are in the chicken tractor right now. That's where they spent the quarantine weeks. I let the "littles" out for a bit the other evening (under serious supervision), and the "bigs" pecked on him! His name is "BigE Smalls", much to the protest of my DH. It makes sense... he's the biggy of the "smalls." Should I be seriously worried about his safety with the larger ladies right now? They're age 11-15 weeks and he's about 4 months, but they're already bigger than him.
