Silkie Roo?

That's what I'd have thought also. I can't imagine why I keep reading in different places that you can't tell male from female until 9 months. Maybe they actually mean you can't be sure it's a *pullet until maturity. But the 1/2 I think are males all have pretty pronounced combs while the other 1/2 of them have zero comb development.
Thanks!

I don't get the nine month thing either. They will be crowing or laying by the time they are 5-6 months. As far as the comb thing goes. Again...I went and looked at past pictures of my first flock of silkies and of the 8 6 turned out to be roos but according to the pictures you wouldn't be able to tell. I'll post a few for you to see.

This is Harry, one of the roosters sleeping in my lap on the way home from the store. He was about 5 months. Yes, we took them everywhere.

This is Pickles, one of the hens at about 4 months old.

This is Jumpy, the other hen at about 6 months old after it rained.

And FYI...clearly I didn't name them.

I love the pictures! Harry's adorable lol I'm having a hard time coming up with names, too. Too many dogs and cats and other pets over the years. Mine are also pets like yours are. I've already decided I can't stand to give up the males, we're out in the country so thankfully I don't have to. The one I posted the picture of is just the sweetest little thing.

"Dirty" Harry and his brothers were always very tame. We found homes for all but him and he got a little protective of the girls around the age of 6-7 months. It really wasn't a big deal to me as he never actually did anything but at the time I had him at the school were I work and he did end up chasing one of the children so I ended up leash training him. The second I put the harness on him he was completely deflated.

I used the leash for a few weeks simply to let him know who was boss then after that I only had to put the harness on. He's about a year and a half now and I haven't had the harness on him in months. Someone asked me for a picture and if you can believe it...I never took one.

I went looking for the harness the other day but I haven't found it yet.

Dirty Harry? lol! That's funny :) Roosters are like dogs & teenagers-all bluff in most cases.

i have 2 silkies and the only way i knew i had a pair was because i saw the roo doing his thing
