It doesn't match the symptoms of Mareks . Plus his body is basically low to the ground with his legs sticking out. Looks like he has been squashed. No head shaking going on.

Well, he is not really any better this morning. I've put him outside in the sun withe feed & water within reach, but he has not tried to get up. I will attach a pic when I go back out. I'm not sure at this point if taking him to a vet will help. I'm almost 100% sure this is a head injury.

After I put him out imagine my surprise when I heard his SISTER crowing from HER cage. Apparantly this much smaller & timid blue silkie that I thought was a pullet is in fact also a ROO.

So my guess is that the injury incurred in the same cage they have been sharing. The weird thing is that when they have been in the run with my 6 hens, they were always being chased by the hens & never seemed to bother each other.

Anyways, I'm going to wait a few days & see if he gets any better, & if not I'll have to gather the courage to cull him. Most likely I will take him to the vet to be put down.

My silkie roos have endured torture from dogs and still come back fighting.
It's the small and delicate young hens we've had issues with. One
just a few weeks ago did neck damage and we have no idea how.

If he means that much to you consider having a fecal test done at the vet
today just to rule out disease. You only need some fresh droppings.


As for culling, if it turns out you have no other options, do it yourself. It's
a more personal experience than having a vet do it. I'm convinced it's better
for the bird and much better for the owner. I know it sounds counterintuitive.

no weird neuro symptoms at all? (usually a head injury will always present with some form of crook or limber neck, or walking backwards or throwing their head back or such)
Can you post a film clip?

I am sooo sorry to hear of your lil roo. Make sure you get some Vit E in him, if it is a head injury it might help and if not it cant hurt him any.

vit E at a therapeutic dosagecan only be absorbed in combination with selenium (there are combo tabs with the correct form and dosage of selenium which should not exceed 50 MICROgrams per tab... I posted an online source for one the other day).
vit E and selenium has also been shown to be helpful in toxicities you should also give a liquid B vitamin with this also (not polyvisol as the A can interfere with the E) ... If you have Avia Charge 2000 I would give him that too as a general support measure.

LCRT, I'm hoping to see an update soon. Perhaps a positive one. Sad when one gets sick.
I have 2 silkie roos and a silkie hen together for 9 months now. They all get along perfectly well. Never had any fighting.If you haven't seen problems between them, there might not be.
I could not cull myself unless my chicken was in dire pain. I would be taking mine to the vet as well if I needed to.
