I have a young silkie setting. I have never had chickens that I could control their hatching. My other hen that is setting gets off the nest when I take treats to the others but the Silkie doesn't. I tryed to force her to get off the nest to eat and drink but she just runs back to the nest. Is this normal? Help for the novice. Barb

I do know that Silkies are the perfect mothers and will sit at every opportunity, including sometimes the males!

  3. Yep...I have a silkie rooster that sits on the golf ball in one of the nests! And to think we named him "Hemingway" !! [IMG]

He will get off for treats, etc....but he keeps that golf ball warm quite a bit.

When she gets hungry or thirsy enough, she will get off the nest! [IMG]
