silkie sexing

Here are 4 of the 5 chicks I have, they are just 4 months old. Im guessing from what you have said there are two girls and two buys in this picture? i have alot of pictures of them but not of all 5 together, they are just too quick! These chicks was raised by Clarissa my white sussex so they havent gotten used to human contact as of yet, making it very tricky to get them to pose!

Greenbeetle, your babies are so precious! But far to young to take a guess on sex because they will be changing soo drastically. Three months is a good time to start guessing sex but any earlier than that is really too soon.i had one that I swore was male because of its crest when it was little the crest stuck out in back and looked so male but as it aged to about three and a half months old the crest suddenly became full and round. No doubt now that what I thought was for sure a male was a female! Unless they start getting a large comb (that would be a male for sure) then it's really hard to judge at such a young age because they have not yet started to develop.. Things to watch for that are clues to a male Bird would be streamers beginning to develop, comb growth larger bumpy combs, stance (males tend to stand taller than females. Keep an eye out for those signs when they start developing. But right now they are far to young to make a proper guess. I hope this helps. Please post back when they are a little older. They have a lot of changes to go through right now. They sure are cute what ever sex they may be! Take care and God bless.

Thank you so much for your reply. By just observing them sometimes, three of the white ones i thinkk are male's, and the other white and showgirl i think might be femailes. Only time will tell. Hopeing for some femailes thought...lol.

Can you get a closer shot of the comb of your buff? She looks like my buff pullet did when she was developing. I'm wishing I could zoom on these picts but I can't. It's hard to see but I don't see much comb growth .is the comb smooth or bumpy? I can't tell from the photos. One of the shots looks like it might be bumpy? How old is this Bird? I'd watch for awhile and see if the crest fills out and rounds up.does it have any streamers in the back of its head? I had a buff I'd of sworn was a male and suddenly the crest became full and round and it was a obvious female.they can be really tricky sometimes! I'd give it some time and see if the crest fills out a bit more if it doesn't then it may be male.watch for tell tale signs like comb growth, stance, and streamers.right now in my honest opinion, this one could go either way. I'd wait just a little longer to see how it starts to develop. If this Bird is already four months then I'd swing to say it looks male but younger than that it could still fill out and change to the classic female look. Sorry I can't be of more help. This one can be tricky. I'd wait a bit and see what it looks like at about 4 months old. Like I said if it's already 4 months my guess is male but if it's younger than that it can still fill out more and be female. It sure is adorable what ever it is! I just love buffs! I have three myself.

Here are my 8wk old babies. Did the best on pics. I've pretty much come to terms that my white silkie may be a boy, according to stance and attitude. S/he is very rambunctious and has a smaller crest, although no real comb. My grey is very shy and barely moves much. S/he would rather just sit or perch. Also, they are hatch mates
