silkie sexing

Pics
So, I have questions, as silly as they may sound.
1. Does a blue on the side of its head determine a sex?
2. Some birds look more fluffy on the head. Do owners do something to make them that way, like does trimming? Or is it a certain type? Like my white silkie is not as fluffy as some on its head. Maybe genetics?
3. Is there somewhere I can see all the colors, and their names of silkies?

I have a dark grey with a black neck and head. Is that called anything special?

The blue you see on the side of a silkies head is their earlobes. All silkies have turquoise earlobes, but no, it does not relate to their sex.
Their 'fluffy heads' are their crests. It's just the breed. There are more crested chicken breeds out there though besides silkies. Yours might not be as fluffy on the head just because of quality, also it could be a boy, they don't have as prominent 'poofs' as the girl silkies do. At least most of the time. It really varies.

There are lots of posts here on backyard chickens about the different silkie colors/varieties.

I'm not sure what color your silkie is.

I have 7 new, week old silkies.. I know they're way too young to determine gender, but was wondering if their different appearances meant anything..,

3 chicks (black, blue, and white) have very round poofs on their heads..

2 chicks (partridge and white) have a multiple spiky feathers (streamers?)

The other 2 (white) don't have either..

Any input ideas? So I can quit searching threads lol :)
Thanks!!

It's difficult to say for sure without seeing pics, but here it goes. Its possible that your Blue, Black, and white have vaulted skulls and that is why they have the round poofs as 1 week olds. The feathers that you are speaking of are just crest feathers growing in, streamers come months (5 or 6 months old) later. The other two more than likely don't have vaulted skulls and havent started to grow their crest feathers yet. Hope that helps.

The chicks on the outside have vaulted skulls, the middle chick, does not.

Thanks for the quick reply :) first time owning silkies and am trying to learn as much as possible! Didn't know they had different types of skulls, so thanks! I will be patient now and stop wondering hahaha
