Hi everyone. I have 2 silkies 4-5 months old.. the dark 1 is definitely a roo but unsure of the white. What do you think

yep black is rooster
white is a faster developing pullet!

This silkie is 11 weeks old in these photos, and she/he is 14 weeks old today. There hasn't been any real change.








These photos are from today (this silkie is not fond of posing for the camera)








The only slight difference is that the place where the comb would be (it's currently just flat) is pinkish now, but only a TINY bit pink. She/he has very tiny wattles as well.

Yeah thank you. My black is definitely a roo, he's getting a good crow during the day and got very protective of his flock when my dog said hello.haha

Hey guys it's been a while but I wanted to update everyone.

A while back I posted a pic of a couple silkies that were six months and still couldn't tell their gender.

Two white over gray and they're beautiful birds. Well we now know their genders at 9 months they're broody lol I'd say that's a resounding pullet gender lol.

So we hatched and kept in 2016. 1 partridge cockeral, 1 gray cockeral, 2 white/gray pullets, 1 partridge pullet, 1 paint pullet, and a blue and a buff that are too young to sex yet. They're giving me fits too. They're from a breeder friend of mine and her silkies take longer to sex than the ones we hatched last year.

Unfortunately out of last year's silkie flock(we began 2016 with 6 silkies) we rehomed a pair due to the cockerals fighting and then we lost two others to predators(we lost a total of 25 birds to predators in 2016)
So from our original silkie flock we have a white hen and a gray hen.

This is one of the now broody pullets(an old pic) her sister looks identical except for that she has almost no crest.

17 week old (almost 18) white silkie. Very loud but no crowing. Doesn't strut or walk with head held high like a rooster, comb is almost nonexistent but is light purple and has a tiny but barely raised bump. Likes to cuddle with the rooster and the other pullets. He is a messy eater when I give him watermelon and other fruits so that's why the front of his crest is so spiky looking and dirty. Not aggressive, very sweet, dainty feet. Ordered from MyPetChicken. Does a sort of squat when I touch his/her back but not as dramatic as some of my laying full grown hens, then lets me pet his/her back, wings, and head. Pullet or cockerel? Apparently MPC's silkie crests aren't as round for females so they look a little more masculine.
