silkie sexing

N
No, not necessarily. All chicks have wattles. But with male silkie chicks, their wattles tend to be larger and more vibrant at a younger age than a females, IMO.
I've wondered that too, if some hens are more prone to throw a particular gender. I had one silkie hen who only ever hatched one chick at a time, and they were always females.
With silkies, though, it seems like we always have more males

Either it's just bad luck, or, well, bad luck

Thanks for that feedback! I'm going to post some more pics of the juvies (not the newbies hatched 11-26).

Oh, yes, I'll tie my shoes ;-)

Peaches is gorgeous! Looks like a pullet to me.
Thanks. I think she's a beauty too...
I think she looks like a pullet but since I want her to be a pullet it's hard to know how much of my outlook is wishful thinking.
I'm very blessed to live in a rural area where people keep Cockerels/roosters also. My sunrises are a symphony! (and at any time of day the roos crow back and forth from their different households).
The first hatch (before Peaches and her 2 siblings) had 4 eggs out of 5 hatch in the nest. Peaches has a near identical older brother. That hatch had 3 cockerels and 1 pullet. The hatch right after that has 3 chicks (nov. 26th)and one is also that color. I thought it was getting around time for me to see a few more pullets.
The sunlight shifted after Peaches' photo shoot so I have to wait for a nice time to take pics of her hatch-mate siblings. I'll post them too.

My silkie is about 5-6 months old, has been moulting a lot (her wings have always looked scrappy, suspect she's not a purebred ;)) and I'm unsure if it's a boy or a girl! Thoughts?
