I'm gonna guess boy. The comb looks kinda large and bumpy fir a girl at 6 weeks and it looks to have the back swoop hairdo of a roo.

It's not looking good. The comb is huge for a 3 week old and any silkie I've seen with big combs at young ages turned out to be Roos..

Plus he doesn't have much for foot feathering, personally I would free range him or let him go to a nice home as pet quality..

i have the 3 chicks in a large bin with feeders and i have a duck coop in my back yard, il let them grow a bit then i might give them away

Okay, here we go... These two hatched out around June 5th.

Please DO NOT judge the "streamers" on the head of the one showing them. They actually live in a pen with several other chickens, including large fowl. They were broody-hatched, not incubator-hatched, so I am confident about them being okay out there. But every once in a while, they do get picked on by a bigger chicken. Between that and their current molt, both of them used to have VERY furry heads, but not now.

First, the basic reference picture. I'll use this one to keep up with them, as I'm posting a LOT of pics (every pic that came out clear after snapping them for roughly an hour). So in this photo, the one on the left shall be called #1, and the one on the right shall be called #2. In all other photos, I will point out which is which by saying it is #1 or #2. (I also tend to use "he" as a generic pronoun. Clearly I'm not sure if they are he or she).


#1 is also the one that I said you may not be able to judge based on his head-feathers alone. They both had poofy heads. They are either molting or getting plucked (or both) and both have lost almost the entire head since then. This little guy just happened to hold on to some longer than the other one.

Combs are big for 6 week olds. It's looking like Roos but these guys can be hard to sex. But I'm gonna say boys esp since it seems like everyone has been getting Roos lately..

Hey everybody.
So I have 2 roos right now. A serama and a silkie. But I was looking closer and.....I think I might have another I hatched these chickens in feb so they are around 4 months

Does anyone have any pics they can share of young pullet combs vs roo combs? Some of my puffies have combs, but they wont sit still for pics. I know when they get older they look kinda... raisin-y... on the roos, so that's what I've been keeping an eye out for, but I'm not even sure on hen combs.
