silkie sexing

What about this Silkie. I was told "she" was 5 months old. Is she a she? If not, what makes you think so? First silkie so I don't know much. She sounds just like my 4 month old red sex links. I only see a small smooth comb. I have not heard any crowing. Thanks for any help.

I don't remember if I posted this already or not.. if I did... sorry! LOL.

The bigger buff I follow the most with the camera... roo, right? And is that a roo noise, or is it just a chicken noise? I've never had chickens before, so I really have no clue! Up until a couple weeks ago I've just had peeping and clucking occasionally. I want to make 100% certain boys are boys before I rehome them, I'd be sad to get rid of one of my favorites and then find out he was a she. :(

ETA: I don't know if you guys can tell anything about any of the others from this, but that would be awesome if you could!

Well, I think I'm at a the point where I can get some educated guesses on gender. These chicks are about ten to eleven weeks old. Unfortunately, I think I have more cockerels than pullets. I don't have to get rid of anyone because we live out of town, but if I have six roos, I'm going to have to build a bachelor pad if that's too many roos for a flock of 32 chickens. I'm guessing it is.

I'm doing this in batches, since I have a few to get through.

Lou -- it's hard to get good shots of Lou's stance because Lou has better things to do than pose for pictures:

Jazz -- I'm pretty sure with that comb, it's a boy.

More chicks:

White Flame -- I'm hoping it's a girl, but I just have a feeling it's a boy.

Not the best shot, but WF kept wanting to leave:

Cottonball -- my daughter will disown this chick if it's not a girl.

Although now that we have a confirmed white pullet, maybe she won't mind much.

Pinto -- now I only have a few shots of Pinto because nobody wants to hold it to get comb and head shots. It has a real problem with clinging poop and I'll leave it at that. That's the reason it has no tail. As for a comb, its comb is very similar to Cottonball's -- not very big at all. Hopefully that'll help.

I think the black one may be a pullet, i cant see much of a comb. the splash (who is very very beautiful by the way) is hard to tell because its bearded. I always look at my chicks waddles and combs.

I have had bad luck with my chicks and now I only buy pullets. It was to heart breaking! And it's not easy having to keep rehoming roos. I have had so many roos. 4/4 in one lot I bought :(

I have 1 dominant roo. He is the only one who crows during the day. In the morning they will all crow.

When I have a roo who starts crowing he gets brought inside of a night/morning and put into our rooster box. Because we were doing this, another chick would step up and if ready, they would start to crow. S in answer to your question, yes! Removing the dominant roo can give opportunity for another one to crow.

Good luck I hope you only end up with 1 roo as willow is divine!
