silkie sexing

Pics
How long does it usually take for the crest to fully come in on a silkie hen? My hen is about 6 months old and she still has pin feathers in her crest.

Okay I will play again!!! I have these 2 Silkies 1 Blue 1 Lavender about 10ish weeks old??? They don't like to pose for pictures esp the Blue so hopefully you can get a read on these!!!

Sorry the pictures of the Blue are so BAD!!! I'll try to get more tomorrow!

Thanks

How about Fancy Nancy? Is she really a Fancy Ned? Her poof is wet here, so it may give a false streamer result. I think if she develops streamers it is supposed to happen at 4 months. She's super gentle. Not outgoing the way my RIR roo was, but super sweet. She's between 14-16 weeks. No comb, just flat. No wattles.

I have 13 week old girls and they are fully round.

Though they do have more feathers coming in. I would say by 6 months they should be fully developed for the most part. They would just fill in a bit more.

I would say that is a roo based on comb, streamers, legs are longer, etc. If it turned out to be a 'she' I would be surprised. Please let us know.

My silkie roos are always really sweet. I have a buff boy that LOVES chicks. He is with them from the get-go, and even keeps them warm. Eats out of my hand very gently, while the younger chicks nearly make me bleed lol.

I don't know if it's true, but my boys have different voices as well. Anyone else ever notice this? My girls are higher pitched, my boys are very low when the peep. This is after 3 months, so keep that in mind.

Thanks. I will post results whether Fancy Nancy/Ned crows or lays an egg. I don't have another silkie to compare with, so I'll just wait.

I have silkies that are 9 weeks old and my cockerels have combs and my 2 pullets are flat like yours is. Both of my girl look just like yours. This is one of my boys, see the color and bumps forming, he also has wattles that are a dark mulberry color now to. This second picture is one of my girls Kinda green in color right now but she is flat with no sign of a comb and no wattles either. I think you have a Nancy not a Ned.

It would be so exciting if you are right and I have a Nancy. She is best friends with my bantam frizzle, Hester. The jury is out on Hester too. Perhaps a Herman--that's in a separate thread. I'm too close to my neighbors to have a rooster. (Though it would be cool to have frizzle/silkie cross eggs to hatch.) It would be great if these girls could snuggle during the upcoming New England winter. My White Rocks and my EE will likely not give them the time of day. This is my first flock and it has been so much fun. I'll post updates.
