Silkie Soup (CAUTION - PICS - NOT A JOKE)

As you can see in the pic it has a thin layer of black. It is not the skin.
Breast meat on left, dark meat on right.

Ain't nothing wrong with eating chicken. Those roosters had a really good life. They met their maker. The thing people forget is that everyone and everything is going to part this earth. Nothing makes it alive...

Hey, Silkiechicken, What are the medicinal factors to eating a silkie? I really want to know!

PC, I dont fault you at all, I know you were at your wits end with the little guys.
I was trying to talk to Mom (mom is in her 80's) the other day about doing the same if my showgirl turns out to be a roo, and she started crying. I, like you, probably couldnt do it, having known the darned chicken. I would just totally lose my appetite. If I didnt KNOW the silly bird, I would be fine, crazy..huh?
I commend you, and even if you had a difficult time, at least your son didnt!

They had a wonderful life with a wonderful family.

Well... They say this and that about health and blah... good for colds, good for strong immunity, good for stamina etc... I don't believe any of it personally, more a traditional thing I'd have to say... there is one study somewhere that says a protein in the black pigment is "benificial" but that they don't know how. But I don't remember if it was a peer reviewed article or not. I haven't been able to find it again on pubmed. Some of the benifits of the soup may also be due to the other herbs that are added. I don't know what they are but I know that darned ginsing flavor is there. Yuck!

I have an Asian mother-in-law. She makes "medicinal" soups out of lots of birds. One of the favorite is Pidgeon. That is all dark meat. I don't remember seeing any darker connective tissue, but then again I wasn't looking.

It is the top layer of the meat. It doesn't peel.

Ever have lobster and eat the claw? The surface of the meat is red but
it's part of the meat. Same thing.

It has no flavor, texture, or consistancy to speak of.
