Silkie Soup (CAUTION - PICS - NOT A JOKE)

Well... They say this and that about health and blah... good for colds, good for strong immunity, good for stamina etc... I don't believe any of it personally, more a traditional thing I'd have to say... there is one study somewhere that says a protein in the black pigment is "benificial" but that they don't know how. But I don't remember if it was a peer reviewed article or not. I haven't been able to find it again on pubmed. Some of the benifits of the soup may also be due to the other herbs that are added. I don't know what they are but I know that darned ginsing flavor is there. Yuck!

There might be a stimulant in it because my kid is running around the
house singing a "I love silkie & barred rock" song. It's an eating, not a love
song.

He loves this site and the fact I put up pictures gets him excited. His mom is
at work so it's just us boys eating silkie soup and posting on BYC.
Ahhhh to be a 2nd grader.....

sorry couldn't resist

maybe that will be the new saying if nothing else "it taste like Lobster claw" no not as catch as "taste like chicken"

Actually it would be good dipped in butter. It has a very similiar
texture to lobster claw.

As for the bed time I'm s*r*w*d. She'll get in at 11:30 and he'll
still be awake. That's the price she pays for working in a hospital
and going to school during the day. Our son being with me at night
is tough on structure but he learns a lot and has fun.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That was alot of warning for pictures of chicken.
I don't eat my chickens and would never do so, however, I would eat your chickens if given the opportunity and as long as you did all the dirty work. LOL.

I was really expecting something gory and graphic after your warnings, but like a car accident, I had to look.

I'd say it was more like looking at someone getting a speeding ticket than seeing a car crash though.

Anyway, I'm glad you were able to put your chicken to good use.

Proud Father of a 7 year old Son(going on 16), 1 Pitt/Heeler Mix, 1 Coon Hound Mix, 1 Nanday Conure, 2 Silkies, 1 Lazy

does this have to be changed ot ONE silkie??

Barg,
The pictures of processed silkie might get a few folks here upset.
I don't want to do that. Plus I've made some pretty ridiculous posts
in my time that I didn't want people thinking I'm kidding around.
Just being careful but I understand what you are saying.

How's this?

mdbucks, I still have 2 silkies, 1 hen and 1 roo.

We had to give our last two roo's to our son, because I got a little tired of eating named birds......I get ya completely, ya try to do the right thing and eat them, but geez why does it have to be so hard?!!!!

I'd like to say the pic with your son is more shocking to me, but, nah, however I'm sure there are pics you could take that I don't want to see so, I'll call it good

I understand that there are some people who would be offended, I lived with a couple vegans for a while

I had the camera out but refrained from taking any really nasty shots.
This wasn't a fun experience. It was only our second time culling birds
and they were all birds we named and knew. Now that our flock is manageable
our future cullings will be no-named meat birds.

This whole thread was about sharing the experience with others here and
drawing on their experience. I could have made a big joke out of it but
even I'm smarter that that.
