Thanks! I think you are talking about Animal the black splash. Sammy is the buff. I think I didn't put the wording correctly in the post but I think you were talking about Animal. I believe him to be considered a black splash and yes, he has white around his neck. his beard is dark and he has the dark areas on the each side of his neck on the upper part. He has some white on his body but less than his neck and pretty pronounced white feathering in his wings. You might be able to see it better in these pics here. They are not very clear pics of him but I think you can see how his wings look. He has alot of white feathering with a little green and just a hint of some red. I really like how he has turned out and he is really pretty in person. I will have to tackle my good camera off of my daughter to get some good pics of them that you can see them better. These were taken with my phone.

I have some silkie babies that are about 10&1/2 wks old. I am trying my best to sex these little devils and have a question. I have figured out the difference in my older chicks because the combs are so much different on the hens than the roo (well 1 is still out for debate). Are the roos combs always redish in color? Or are their combs based on the color of the feathers?

Shouldn't have reddish combs on silkies. Standard calls for mulberry to black. Size and shape of comb also has to do with the bloodlines behind the birds too. The better quality birds you deal with the longer it takes to sex them. Patience! If you got the birds from who I think it will be 6 months possibly till you can tell on most of them.

I did get 6 from who you think I did but they are older. The one redish comb came from there - but pet quality only. He's crowing and having great fun. I know who the girls are by the way he acts around them (LOL). The youngsters came from a different breeder. GOD I LOVE THEM ALL!!!

Did I ever say thank you? If I didn't, pardon my bad manners.

My husband thinks I have lost my mind. He's says I went from a good flock that more than paid for themselves with the eggs, to a bunch of freeloaders. How could anything so cute be called a FREELAODER? But he enjoys them almost as much as I do. Have you ever played the opening the door trick in front of them? I love it!! I time them to see if they can figure out a way around it. So far we are up to 11 minutes before I break down and close the door.

My silkie pullet just turned into a cockerel! ughh He now has big streamers =/ This is when I thought it was a girl.
