Thanks Chris! This is a new one I just got! He (or she?) came with a really nice black pullet. What do I do about the mites in their crest? I haven't dealt with that issue yet.

Peepblessed- it would sure be awesome if this were a pullet... I guess it'll have me confused until it starts crowing or something! hehe!

I have not needed it but I understand dog flea shampoo works well. Do not get it in their eyes. If one bird has them, they likely all do.

My daughter says the best place to check for them is around the eyes. You can see them crawling around.

Dog flea shampoo works like a charm I use it all the time.

Before I put in my water system it helped to put a splash of white vinegar in before a bath and use glycerine or goats soap. Otherwise my hair would turn very brittle on top of ruining the color so I'm guessing iron heavy water would be hard on their feathers too. I treated for mites successfully with a couple of drops of lavender oil in the water, rinsing for several minutes, washing with goats milk lye soap and dusting with DE.

My favourite stand bye is Adams flea and tick spray....buy the spray..Walmart has it and the shampoo...first you can spray where you see the nasties or think they are and then I like to give them a bath with the flea shampoo ...it kills everything crawling on them...i wash all the showbirds in it .. i purchased some nice show birds and they smelt so wonderful and i was like wow what did you wash them in they smell so nice....Adams Flea and Tick Shampoo....i thought it must be some fancy aromatic chicken shampoo ive never heard of...lol
