Silkie thread!

The scene at my house yesterday. This is "Austria", my Ragdoll cat, meeting "Ella", my almost 9 week old Silkie chicken. (It's hard to find the chicken in all that fluff!!!

A few weeks ago, I posted here asking about a stange action one of my 3 mo. old silkies was suddenly doing.
No one seemed to have a clue. She was putting her head down between her legs, scooching backwards and acting like she was trying to bite her stomach.

I met April from Brodys Bordello at the NEPC last weekend, and she gave me the answer. Apparently, it is a neurological response to a head injury. So I want to thank April, because I thought it was a strange disease, so that was a relief.

She is much better now, hardly doing that movement, only occasionally, and I'm relieved that it is not a permanent situation.

I thought I would share in case anyone else has this happen to their silkie.

This is Meshach (h 12/13/11) and Navidad. (h 12/26/11). Navidad was hatched with a neurological issue which causes him/her to "bobble" his/her head every few minutes. Meshach has become Navidad's designated guardian angel...always at her side and worries if she is ever out of his sight. These are 2 of my very first Silkies (and chickens!) - Meshach has 2 sibs - and I love them madly!

That is so sweet!

Barn Goddess-- great pictures of your silkie and your cat! Cute! I just hope the cat isn't in the mood for a silkie snack. ;)

BlessedChick, very cute little fluff balls you have there! Isn't so neat how they take care of each other? I have a couple of silkies out in my layer coop that stick up for each other and for the Polish. They can handle the barred rocks and Wyandottes when they get mean. A little silkie ninja kick, flapping of the wings, and the bigger birds are running for the hills! LOL

I'm totally stoked! I just got an email that said our first 4-H show is March 24th! They are doing both showmanship and showing. My son hasn't learned showmanship yet. We'll have to sign up for the classes and get prepared! Only two months to learn! :) I know I'm a lot more excited than he is. haha! I'm sure I'll have some up coming questions about fluffing and beautifying the birds later.
