Silkie thread!

Love all the gorgeous Silkies! I have one which I would like some of our Silkie experts to take a peek at. She/he is 5 1/2 weeks old and I am not sure what color to call him/her. The crest is still mostly pinfeathers, so I'm not TOO scared yet by the punk rock look. I am hoping this turns out to be a pullet. I am a bit distressed to see just how YELLOW the beak is! I'd not noticed till I looked at these pictures! Her/his feet and skin are otherwise black... will the beak darken with age?

Here she/he is:

I see! Well I understand splashes (from researching blue wheaten ameraucanas, which i own), but paint seems complicated. One day when someone here has time I would like to better understand it. That being said, thank you for helping me better grasp the concept!

I can see you are like me and want to learn everything at once!

I believe you have a lovely partridge there like the girl in my avatar. I won't give a guess on the age yet though with partridge you can sometimes tell this early so maybe you'll get an expert! The beak will likely darken some. If you were using a flash camera it may have accentuated it.

Thank you, but it's not the same bird. Chloe is the porcelain/blue partridge or whatever in my avatar, and Cali is my splash.
Splash is actually my favorite color. Wish I had more!

They are both gorgeous!! And I agree about the splashes. I have 2 ordered. I think it should have been more.....

Quote: Quail waterers are even better. THey are sometimes called no-drown founts. Instead of having a wide saucer-like drinking area, the walls are vertical, and the opening is only about a centimeter wide. Marbles wouldn't even fit in it, and it is virtually impossible for a chick to drown. It is a little more difficult for adult birds to drink from, but not impossible.

Chickens XOXO, I think the hair bows are adorable! How long will they keep them in before they scratch them out?

These stay in pretty good (compared to others I've tried), but after a few good shakes, they start to get loose, so I take them out. I don't make them wear them often, mainly for pictures, but I'd like to carry them to visit at the nursing home one day, and it would be great if they'd wear them while visiting.
