I see! Well I understand splashes (from researching blue wheaten ameraucanas, which i own), but paint seems complicated. One day when someone here has time I would like to better understand it. That being said, thank you for helping me better grasp the concept!
Paint is thought to be either dominant white, or a different allele (not proven) of dominant white. Dominant white is much "leakier" than recessive white.
Anyways, unless breeding paint to paint, or paint to dominant white, the chicks can receive only one copy of dominant white/paint. That being the case, at least half will not inherit it, and thus will not display it, nor will they be able to pass it on. Some think that blacks out of a paint breeding might carry the paint causing gene hidden. I strongly think this is not possible, based upon what we do know. I do think it is possible, and even likely that a white out of a paint breeding could pass it to their offspring, though; especially if it is simply dominant white.
