Silkie thread!

I see! Well I understand splashes (from researching blue wheaten ameraucanas, which i own), but paint seems complicated. One day when someone here has time I would like to better understand it. That being said, thank you for helping me better grasp the concept!

Paint is thought to be either dominant white, or a different allele (not proven) of dominant white. Dominant white is much "leakier" than recessive white.

Anyways, unless breeding paint to paint, or paint to dominant white, the chicks can receive only one copy of dominant white/paint. That being the case, at least half will not inherit it, and thus will not display it, nor will they be able to pass it on. Some think that blacks out of a paint breeding might carry the paint causing gene hidden. I strongly think this is not possible, based upon what we do know. I do think it is possible, and even likely that a white out of a paint breeding could pass it to their offspring, though; especially if it is simply dominant white.

I really appreciate this info, Sonoran. I have been trying to determine whether or not I should keep these solid paints for who knows how long in order to find out. I did find at least one comment from a person who heard of a person who had success crossing her dark solids.

Here are my silkies babies that hatched December 14th!! They are such goofs. The pictures were taken during playtime out in the sun. One of them just recently started crowing.

Let me know what you guys think of the quality. They still have bit of pin feathers in their fluff on the head so I think they will be more fluffy on their heads. It was hot so thats why they have their wings out like that, they normally keep them held tighter.

BTW I have 4 whites 2 black 1 buff and 1 partridge.
