I am currently hatching several of my own chicks and trying to separate out those that are obviously PQ to sell now. I'm wondering about poor double to separation. When does it go in the PQ pile? If a bird is good in every other aspect can it be shown with a double toe that is poorly spaced? Sorry to ask but I am unable to go a show a learn these kind of things. Thanks ahead for responding!

just poor 4th and 5th toe seperation?

What I am doing (since I've hatched a gaggle of chicks already)

First cut - within the first week
What I look for :
Comb
- is it a flat comb or a single (I've never had a problem telling single combs on day old chicks)
Toes - does it have 5 toes? 4 and 6 toes are PQ....does it have a bald middle toe?(not sparse, but bald) - PQ Any extra toe nubs, lobster toe/fused toes, extra toenails?? - all go to PQ (extra toenails I might hold onto if I will be short changed for only a few chicks left with that cut)

I don't worry about poor toe seperation and placement (as long as they ARE completely separate toes and not fused) - I never worry about that until they get mature. You can show a bird without any point issues, etc with poor seperation, just as long as they aren't fused.

What color is this? It is gorgeous! I have a chick feathering in somewhat similar and been trying to figure out what it is.

Where did you get your chick from?

Mine come out of someone's partridge pen. Sonoran Silkies says he's a diluted splash partridge but I am unsure.
He started out looking like a porcelain chick, not white. his base color isn't white it is a definitely cream, he has white in his wings though

I posted on here a few weeks ago about a chick that came from 2 white parents and it had a chipmonk pattern so I was wondering what color it could be. Well its feathering in now and I will try to get a picture tomorrow of it but it really appears to be a cuckoo.
Anyone who has cuckoos or has had cuckoo chicks do they typically have a chipmonk pattern as chicks?

It's probably partridge, not cuckoo.
