It choked on starter crumbles. It was all wet in it's throat. Maybe it's crop got stepped on and it couldn't swallow it back down. When I picked it up from the floor. It was laying there gasping for air. As it opened it's mouth to gasp for air I saw what looked like the top of a piece of corn. Thats what I thought it was although I feed them starter crumbles and thats it. I thought maybe it was in the feed and it got it and choked. So I got a dull knife and gently poked at it to see if it was hard or soft and it left an indentation. So thats when I started looking for something to get it out with. As I started to put that end of the brush that had the ring on it in it's mouth to start digging it out it went into the death throws and made it impossible for me to hold it in one hand and safely dig with the end of the brush. I still dug it out after it stopped breathing. I could feel it's heart beating and knew there was still hope as long as it was. Unfortunately, I was too late. If I had one of those sucker bulb things, even if it was a kernel I could have gotten it out and safed it.
I just hate it when I've failed. I've gotten used to the ones that don't make it during and after hatching. I know that sometimes it just wasn't meant to be but this chick was healthy and doing good. I'm sure it would have been the prettiest light partridge too with that gold on it's head.
