Silkie thread!

Here's a few of my silk kids. Please forgive some of the "nakedness"...taken at end of molt

. Hope I don't bog down the thread with all the pics

I also had to mark them with my name to prevent a 'certian someone' from using MY pics to represent and sell THEIR birds (sigh).
ETS: Roo in first pic does have a correct mullberry comb...cam flash made it appear a bit more reddish though.

...Your birds are gorgeous too. I have a few lav splits in the "goofy" looking stage right now, but I hope to post pics of them soon. Speaking of lavenders...I'd love to learn more about the genetics/factors with WHITE silkies who are lav splits...White 'masks' other colors, sooooo, what do you get from white birds who are 1/2 lav? Will you always get wht or is it possible to get lavenders from breeding these together??

I'm trying to learn about the poultry genetics...specifically lavender silkie genetics...but I'm afraid I don't have enough confidence to guess on the results. I'll go to my chicken calculator and see if I can come up with something. I'm just learning to use it too!!

Thanks Gator...Sounds great. Let me know what you can locate on the genetics, I'm real interested in the white gene added in there w/lavender.

Well when I add new birds I keep them where my flock can see them, but not get to them for a week or two. That way they get used to each other, and there is less fighting. It could be they are both roos, but maybe not. He mite just think it's an outsider and thats all.

As for putting the chicks back. as long as they need heat they will go to mama. You would just wait until the other egg hatch. I have put chick under hens meny times, they alway take them. But some hens will not take chick once theirs are a few days old. I kinda think they can count to a point.

I don't know a lot about silkies yet, mine are still young. but I've been around chickens for a while now. The BYC as a whole has been a big help.

This is the lil blue I got from Vickie she is still very young but turning out beautiful..
