Silkie thread!

What do I have here? The front of her is black and the back is more grey. She is SUPER sweet and we love her to pieces! she looks more black to me in person than in the photo.. see in my avatar how she looks more \black in the front?
What you have is a very cute silkie!!! Sorry I am of no help with the color.....

I bought some silkie pullets yesterday thinking they were black. Well when I let them out this morning it looks like one of them is blue in the sunlight

and I do not need blues at all, just blacks. I have a hard time telling dark blue and black silkies a part. Are they black or blue? One is lighter than the other and I'm pretty sure the darker one is black.

Darker one on the left. Lighter one on the right.

for blacks. I've had a hard time trying to find blacks and barely hatch out any.

I am not sure a good way to tell, either. I have 2 blue girls and to my VERY novice eye, they are just as dark as my black roo.

Aww thanks! She's a sweetie. I named her Pompette, with a french accent LOL, but the hubs calls her Fiona HAHA!

I was just wondering if anyone has had good luck with a certain ebay seller for ordering eggs? I'm in Michigan and don't want them coming too far. I currently have 11 bantam cochin hens and 1 rooster, and would love to add some good quality silkies to the mix. Plenty of hot cochin butts to incubate right now! There are some silkie chicks at the local farm store, put they don't seem to end up with the head puffiness I love in the SQ ones. :)

Check also on the B/S/T forum here. Lots of silkie eggs depending on color/quality you are looking for. Also on poultrybid

ScifiSarah,

There is a lady up here in white cloud that regularly has silkie hatching eggs available. I'm sure she would be glad to send u pics of her flock or let u come to her farm to see them. I don't know if they are SQ, but they sure are cute.

I found a few posts about a "Rainbow Silkies" in Michigan, but can't find any contact info. Anyone know where they are located and if they sell chicks or eggs? I suppose a drive up to White Cloud from Rockford wouldn't be that bad now that the weather is nicer. I would probably have to stop at a few dozen garage sales on the way though! :p

Hmmmm. Haven't heard of Rainbow Silkies...... Anyway, I still have her contact info if you're interested. I have some in the bator right now....9 out if 12 at first candle. Can't wait to see the little fluffys.
