I have been trying to learn how to incubate and this is my fourth time. I loaded it up with Silkie eggs. Two dozen from CJ and 17 from Shayna (all paints) hoping I would get it right this time. So far so good! I cleaned out about 20 quitters or infertile eggs and now have approximately 30 eggs with awesome development and movement on day 14.
I am so excited. DH just built me an awesome tractor for my silkies but I think he is going to have to build me two more
or my buff silkie that had wry neck is doing great all better but know one of my chicks that hatched last week is almost a week old and has pasty butt is there anything i can do to help him/her

WOW! Those are some FANTASTIC looking chickens! Normally, I think silkies are kind of ugly (SORRY!), but these ones are b-e-a-utiful! Maybe I will consider getting a silkie after all and I'll just hope it looks like one of yours
QUESTION ABOUT BARRED PATTERN? This girl has the barred pattern, how can I get more like her? What color would I breed her to or do I have to a rooster with that pattern?I know nothing about genetics
I am new to the Silkie thread, although not new to chickens. I used to think Silkies were "froo-froo" chickens and was determined not to go there. But the more I heard about their brooding tendencies and the more time went by with no broodies despite having some broody breeds....well, I took the plunge and now find myself besotted with my two. A friend generously gifted me two 10-week-olds six weeks ago, making them now 16-weeks-old. I finally got around to taking pics of them last night so will post them here. I welcome advice as to what color they would "officially" be called, as well as any guesses as to gender (and yes I know Silkies are notoriously difficult to sex at this age). They're staying regardless of gender but I'm hoping for at least one "living incubator".
This is June-Bug (yes, you can tell from the names that I am being optimistic
