Now THAT is one good looking chick!

I love the photo too. I see those paper towels make excellent backgrounds! I'll have to keep that in mind for future reference.

I have a fun mystery chick. It's 6 days old. It comes from both blue parents (mine) and was born pale blue with pale yellow markings. I assumed it would be light blue because all my splash chicks are born white, but now it's getting it's wing feathers and the primaries are all white and the secondaries look like they are dark but not possitive as they are still in pins. Anyone see one like this before?

Life and it's many surprises! Every morning around 6:30am I open the coops, let the chicks go in one and let the adults stay in the main coop. As I clean the waterers and provide them with fresh feed, my roosters begins to chit chat and of course he crows. Well, long story short, this morning as he crowed away, my oldest (and may I say almost favorite, for being my first chick) chick unveiled his sex to the flock, to me and to himself. At 10 weeks of age, he let a crow that scarred everyone, even scarred him...but after one, many more crows came. This makes me so sad, as I can't have more than one roosters...so I will eventually have to say...farewell to my baby chick!

These guys look like lavender to me, maybe blue - bearded.

At this point, for early culling, you could count toes - make sure they have 5. You could also consider leg/toe feathering (they should have it, preferrably, in abundance) and skin colour (black). Muffs/beards show at hatch so if you are wanting to work with bearded stock, you could cull for lack of that as well.

These chicks look like mine and they turn out dark blue and black. Here's a picture of my newborn lavender for comparison.

I bought my first ever Silkie mix today!

Some of you may remember me saying I had a silkie cockerel in need of a girlfriend, well I bought this new girl from my neighbor today. He didn't even know she was a silkie mix, but I believe she is. She has a small crest, blue ears, 5 toes, and feathers on her feet.

What an adorable picture..love that soft pink for the back ground. I know I want to find some pink now. That baby is darling! You will have to keep posting pictures of this one as it changes in color!

Well here it is... He fell asleep in my hand. I am so in love!
