Silkie thread!

Thanks that may do the trick... Now just got to convince her that we need to wait to see if any of the pastries turn into Roos before we go and get a showgirl lol out of nowhere she goes mom I want a white show girl... Yep thats what I wan the one with no neck feathers.. Sometimes I forget how kids absorb so much info without someone specifically telling them .... She must of heard me talking to my husband lol
haha! So true. How old is she? Mine are 3-8 and they pick up everything (and don't let me forget anything!). My oldest just turned 8 and he is getting really good at reading. Which is great... except for when he is reading my FB and emails over my shoulder....

Lol she turns 4 on the 28th... But has show tons of interest in our chickens... She calls herself a chicken lady! :D

Well, I am just sick. I had a chick hatching just a few minutes ago. It was zipping and working it's way around the egg and chirping. I was doing other things and kept coming back to watch. I left it too long and came back and realized it was no longer moving. I grabbed it out and peeled it back and it had already suffocated and died! I'm sooooo upset! It was a BLACK which I really, really wanted. It was one of my own chicks, and it had perfect feet, too. In fact, the extra toes on each foot had amazing separation. I know, I'm sick, I popped it out of the shell, tried to rub it to stimulate it and then when I realized it was gone, checked it over. The membrane was stuck on it. It must have sealed up and suffocated it. I wish I had caught it sooner. No blood, no nothing, just slid right out when I peeled it back.

A total of 5 birds?  that's okay, although once they get teenage raging hormones you might want to put the boys in a bachelor pad away from the girls until the mature a bit more and hormones slow down.

Does the friend who might eat the cockerel know what colour its meat will be?  Most people do not want to eat "bruise-coloured" meat.

The lady picking him up is the breeder I bought him from, she knows what color they are. That's what they do with there extra Roos. :( She said she has about 35 unwanted Roos right now.
I put him on craigslist for $10.00 to help him go to a home that won't eat him. The more I think about it the more I don't think I will be able to give him to her on Saturday. Which I had a bachelor pad. He does the best little dance I ever seen a rooster do, plus he likes to talk to me. I need more coops and runs! My DH doesnt think so.

Here are my 3 week old Silkie chicks making it obvious that they are boys! Apparently some are easier to sex early than others!!!

Is this a common thing with Silkies??? I've never seen this sort of fighting with any of my large fowl. Not even the early crowers were this determined.
