Silkie thread!

At this age, if you are wanting girls you don't want to see any comb growth. I'd say the second photo is likely a boy. can't see too well on the other photo but you can check it's comb out.
I'll take better pictures this weekend of the combs. They'll be 7wks old at that point. I wont mind having one roo and one hen if thats what they are, or even two hens. But if they are both roo's I will need to find a new home for one and find myself a hen.

If you have hatchery chicks, some times the girls can have pretty big combs. I love the neat coop in your avatar photo!

I am getting the small ReptiPro. Still, it will be better than these others I have..I've been reading a lot of good feed back from people that have them on here. It's the 6000..the newest model. Should come by Thurs!
Second round of Catdance eggs..they must be beauties. I wasn't even sure of what I was getting, I just shot her a pm because I saw that she had a buy it now sell, I don't usually get in those, and it said it had ended, but she said she could get me some out today. I was pretty excited when I went to her site, and her profile.. Wow. Very nice birds.
I have three of hers that I kept. Two porcelain and one splash. They are looking very nice but they're only 2 mths. so not yet sure what I have. Blessings on those eggs!!

They're not hatchery chicks, just a pair that I started out with from someone in my town who raises them. And thanks! I got it from CCONLY.com. Actually heard a lot of bad reviews with their coops, but I still ordered, stained it myself twice and now it's in good shape to make it thru the rain at least. I plan on altering it a little more by putting some better shingles on it. I will actually move it to my shed come winter time so it's up and out of the snow rather than getting buried and me not being able to open any of the doors on it to let my chickens free range. I'm happy with it for the 5 chickens I plan to stay small with.

Ok, picture overload. I am really wondering about this spot on this little ones nose. Is it a comb starting, or does it look like a sore? I've never seen blood on it, I just noticed it the end of last week. I know it's still early, "she"..lol..will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. Any chance of something that will tell the sex, and I think I am pretty sure this is a blue splash now. Showing a lot of pics of the comb area where the spot it. And will show off her feathering. :p

Brought her inside to see if I could get that spot to show up..it shows up better outside..
Can't see it here too much either..
Think if I keep saying she, she will be a she? There's the spot..
Can't see it sideways, but look at those eyes..I can't believe a Silkies eyes. (like you all haven't ever noticed!) lol...
There it is, a good shot of it. I hope that isn't a big ol walnut comb coming on? Would that be where it starts? Or maybe just a sore..hmmm.

I do believe she is a splash
Splash everywhere, even underneath
They are soo soft and fluffy, love it!

I'd say definitely splash! Beautiful feathering too!! That spot looks like a sore. I don't believe it's the comb but I haven't seen anything like it.

PS: if you notice "her" shaking her head, you can trim those cheek feathers. Some chicks are irritated by them.
Thanks, I will watch for that. I haven't noticed her shaking yet. I wonder if that sore will eventually go away. She probably ran into the chicken wire, or hit a wood post at one time while I was in the coop..it's the only thing I can think of. Maybe it will be less noticeable when she gets older. Thank you for the compliments. I think this is a pretty little one. I now have those others to watch, and, like I said, some Silkie eggs on the way. Then, I want to do my pick and choose for my little Silkie flock for the next several years. :) I am loving my Partridge baby right now. Different...and oh..that showgirl..maybe I should go to the showgirl thread, but I was told she would be white, but those feathers are coming out beige color. Pretty.

Nothing much cuter than a partridge baby!
