Silkie thread!

I too have raised lots of silkies and only had a couple with wry neck.

Along another line - I had a trio of cuckoo silkies and lost one of the hens to a predator that got in the chicken house over the winter. What other color hen could I put in with the cuckoo rooster and possibly still get some cuckoo chicks?

Okay, I am VERY new to Silkies and have a few questions.....I have done some reading but.....
1. When/how can I tell hen/roo?
2. This may be really dumb....do they fly?
3. I have them in a stall right now, they have "feathers" but are onyl a couple months old....when can I let them out?
4. can I let them with the rest of my BIG chickens?

Thanks in advance! Oh yeah....they are soooo sweet!

lets see
1. when they crow or lay an egg, silkies are hard to sex if you post some pics we will guess
2.they plummet, but sometimes they think they can fly so watch them if you put them on a table
3. for me about 5-6 months old depending on the weather
4. some have delicate skulls and get pecked in the head. My PQs go out with my other birds and do fine. Just keep in mind a LF roo will breed ANY hen

Are you sure that's a showgirl? I see nothing "silkie" about it. No crest, no foot or leg feathers, hard feathers in the wings...

Got my first SQ silkies today for my BBS breeding pen & my daughter is interested in showing them when they are older. They are 5 months old.
