Silkie thread!

They should be dark. If I remember I can get some pictures of two buff cocks I have. One is a five or six year old with a comb that is too red (and not a great comb to start with) but he was my first buff and has thrown some nice offspring. The other cock is his son, whom I show, and has a very dark comb. He has some blue smut in his tail, so I believe he is a wheaten based buff.

i have white silkies, and all offspring are white, is is a dominant gene ? would love some other colours. definitly want to show them but i am an absolute rookie and have no idea. how do you guys get those things so fluffy , mine are fluffy but not FLUFFY like the pics people have posted.

Almost all silkies are recessive whites when breeding white to white the only thing you get is white! And on the fluffy thing! It's just gotta be there! There is no making them have huge crest or cusions some birds have it and others don't!

I'm under the impression that all Silkies should have combs as dark as you can get 'em but I'd wait on that...

Yes, you want the comb as dark as you can get it. This male has a very nice color to his comb. I believe he was probably around 6-7 months in the picture.

The silkie standard calls for the comb to be "mulberry" in color. Some colors have combs that tend to be a bit lighter such as the buffs. You definitely don't want red combs & most breeders try to get them as dark as possible, but a nice mulberry comb is also quite acceptable.
