Silkie thread!

I think I have fallen more in love with my Silkies!
Yesterday I grabbed my little blue one Pip and put him/her on my chest and then we both napped.
It was so cute! Snuggled right up under my chin!

Why don't you live trap it and relocate it? It is a terrible tragedy that you lost so many birds through your weak spot. I am very sorry to hear this. :( But as you said, that coon didn't mean anything by it-- it was just trying to stay alive itself.
I know that is illegal here. It's best to shoot them. You can even shoot them in the trap.

This is PRECISELY what I am trying to understand. In my other breeds "blue" birds (grey) with speckles like this would not be splash - I don't think. Maybe I'm wrong on that? Genetically, "splash" is a white bird with blue and black flecks so if these ARE splash - are they actually carrying Bl/Bl even though they appear more blue than white? (Your birds are LOVELY, by the way!)
I don't know that I've even seen a white and blue splash in Silkie. I mean-- pure white. Can you hunt up a picture of one, please? I'd love to see one! I'm back home, I'm going to go try to take a pic of a few of my other splash.. :)

Oh he is beautiful!
Thank you! He's filled in more on his cushion since this picture. :)

Okay guys im sure you have covered this topic...But i couldnt find the post so maybe someone can help me or quote me this advice!

I have a TON of wild birds in the silkie pens. I cant get them out. My mom feeds the birds so they are always there and she loves feeding them so it wont stop any time soon. So anyway i was out in the coops, and i was playing with my silkies when i noticed my white hen acting funny. She looked like she had mud all over her face so when i went to clean her up i noticed it was brown crusty stuff with a load of tiny little bugs. They are not big enough to count legs on so im not sure what kind of bugs they are. Some where red and some were black/gray. They look like tiny moving dots. By time i figured this out it was too late to save her and she died. So i examined all of my silkies to find my white 5 month old boy with the same issue. I treated it as mites, i used ivermec (spelling?) and not really much help. I used poultry dust, no real help then i used seven dust (all treatments spread out of course) and that seemed to controal the issue. Im on my 3rd coop cleaning also using DE and seven with new bedding and a dust sprayer to get nooks and crannies. I thought i was in the clear. Apparently, I was wrong...

Yesterday I went to check the silkies and my roo was hunched over, and very thin. He moved about with a wobbel and a crooked neck. The bugs are ONLY on his head. I dont understand it. I dont want to lose him too! ugh are the bugs mites? How do i treat this?? Im so lost and i dont want to lose my babies! I love my silkies. I have put a ton of time, sweat, money, and needless to say tears into them! Please help!
Sounds like Northern Fowl Mites. some people successfully use Frontline; it can impair fertility temporarily, but better infertile for a few months than permanently dead.

As for feeding the wild birds, move the bird feeders as far from your chicken pens as possible, and make sure that they are bird-tight. Add small-mesh netting or insect screening to the wire of your pens, and if they are covered on the top, do so.

I was hoping Sonoran would post the SOP on this because I'm kicking myself for not putting it in my notes. I don't have the book but she quoted it something like this, that a splash was a pale blue background with splashes of dark blue. Some of us were discussing how we liked the really white background with dark blue spots and she posted that. Hope she or someone will post it again and this time I will copy it!!
