Silkie thread!

Those really light splash look like the barely there color.
Here's a photo of a chick at 10 wks. and again at four months. This girl had very few spots as a baby and she continues to get more all the time. I know they can be too light but don't know what age you judge that.

She has watermelon juice in her beard.

You're not. He is pure boy.

Definitely a rooster. And until he lays an egg-- I stand by that one! LOL!! His flattened out crest says 'rooster' too.

Are you sure you have "black" silkies? This one is a Blue.

I may be totally wrong.. But this one says cockerel to me... AGAIN, I may be wrong...
Thanks all! Anyone looking for a rooster

Now I'm up to three boys, and looking at him some more, I think he might be a really dark blue. My other boy is such a light blue he looks black next to him.

Oh great--move it in where it is someone else's problem?! Not to mention being illegal in many places to trap and relocate coons and other predators?

Why would anyone move it to someone else's property? Take it deep into the woods. It is illegal to shoot wildlife in many areas too.

I do wildlife rehabilitation.

I am new to chickens. I have silkies that I want to breed and raise. What is the best wormer to use? I was told to use Ivermectin injectable. One drop in there mouth and on the back of the neck. I am afraid to give them anything. I don't want them to get sick. Couple of them don't seem to be as heavy as others. What does other silkie owners use to worm their flock with ?
Also, I want to get some really nice silkies. What are some of the bloodlines I should look for ?

WOW-- he is stunning!! Those blues look like girls to me. Give them some time.

What a transformation! That is a great looking splash!

By moving it out of your area and into another-- it would be on someone else's property. For example-- we've got hundreds of acres that belong to us-- to anyone else, they are dropping the predator out in the middle of "no where". But if you drop that thing anywhere near me, it's getting shot. We get all kinds of "drop offs" here. It's super annoying! Someone else's problem becomes mine. Just because I live out in the sticks doesn't mean I want your raccoon.

I don't know about your laws, but it's illegal to transport a wild animal and release them here. Right now I have a coyote problem, and so far, I've just worked around them. I'm not the type to just start shooting things. Never was. But if the population becomes so strong it attacks my horses or nearby cattle, they're going to get hunted. Case in point, there was a really hard winter about 4 years ago and I had 5 coyote pack together and they tried to take down my oldest mare in the middle of the night. She had come up into the pasture close to the back of the house and we heard the commotion. We ran out there and took care of it. Haven't had coyote problems like that until this year. They are out there and I hear them and see them trotting across my back field. They don't bother me, I don't bother them. But once they change their mind.... Anyway, no one is attacking you, and it's great that you are a rehaber. We definitely need more of you around. But perhaps you have permits to transport wild animals where as we do not, and its likely you have protected land you are allowed to relocate animals to-- where as we do not around here. It would be illegal for me to do so, and anyone else that is not a state approved rehabber.

Mama2my4-- I keep thinking I hit "multi" on your post, and it doesn't show up! But congrats on your pips!! Now just sit back and wait, because when mine pipped like that, it was still hours and hours away from zipping. Sit on your hands! Let us know when you get babies!
