Your little cutie is too young to sex. It's definitely not black but not sure what color it is. Does it has red or brown in it or is that the flash?
hello to the silkie expert... ok here is the pic asked for in the previouse crisis. so boy or girls n why so ugly???? help please...
Pink toes usually turn black in time.No. The lighting in the morning just makes things look red. I assure you he/she is all back except the left over greyish yellow chest fuzz, which is coming in black. The only weird thing is how he tips iffy some of her toes are pink. She IS from a hatchery though, so what am I gonna do?
If you dont want babies then dont let them incubate. If you just want the other hens for eggs, the roosters wont hurt anything in the edible egg department. I eat fertile eggs every day. The development of the embryo starts when they are sat on or incubated. If you collect eggs every day, and put them in the fridge then you can have roosters with no chicks and great eggs. These are our new Silkies (the other 2 we had got killed by a bird dog so now we have them in their own pen & no longer running the back yard) We bought these from a traders market and it was supposed to be 2 hens and a rooster....turned out to be 2 roosters and a hen! LOL Two of them are bearded. They are about 8 months old or so now, so my question is this: when will she start laying eggs? I have not noticed her laying eggs yet. Also, can the Silkie rooster breed with a Cornish hen or regular sized chickens? Our Silkie roosters are the only roosters we have, so I need to know if I should separate them from the hens if we do not want babies. They are a bit bigger now than they were in this photo, I will try to get a good picture of them later!
