Silkie thread!

Thanks! I am really confused, as I was 100% sure this was a pullet. She fits all the pullet traits, round crest, small comb, pullet attitude, feathered in normally for a pullet, etc. Not to mention the colouring..
Anyone else have any response?
Hens dont crow. Not cockadoodledoo anyway. Sometimes nature fools us. I would say its a roo if it is crowing like a roo.

That is if there is another rooster with them. I assumed that the parents were nearby. It is very rare for a pullet to crow if there is a rooster near them. That is what I meant by hens dont crow.

One of my babies is a black lav split. I love the "salt and pepper" coloring some of these get, like the below picture of one of CJ Silkies gorgeous birds:

From CJ Silkies:

Might my baby below [from a CJ Silkies egg] have this coloring?:

Thanks!

That is not a black lav split. CJ doesn't understand this and calls her grays "black lav split". I have no idea why. The true, one and only meaning of black lav split is a black bird
carrying the recessive for lavender. Basically, a black lav split HAS to be a black bird. It is possible that her grays carry lav, but that would make them grays split
to lav NOT black.

Too young to tell, but definitely not lav. It could still be black but likely very dark blue. Here's a picture of a chick that turned out to be black and not drk. blue.

OK, wow. Thanks for the picture. Definitely some similarities [except the eye area]. Cute chick!! :)

I can understand that a bl lav split would/could/should be a black that carries lav. Perhaps he's a...... ???? who knows! LOL.
Have you ever had this color too, with the white around the eyes?

Thanks both!!

Ok, here is an updated pic of my mystery color. Everyone said Porcelain before, does it still look porcelain? It has a nice light blue underfluff. And still hoping it still turns out to be a girl

. T'Pol is now 4 months old now. And I don't think she came out to bad for being a hatchery chick!

Actually, that's true and you're right that hens don't crow. If you've seen any video of hens "crowing" on YouTube, they really don't sound like a rooster, with the typical crow of a rooster. It sounds more like a screech trying to imitate a rooster. But they come close. If you have a "hen" that is doing a pretty darned good imitation of a rooster crow, I'd say it's just a rooster.

Not bad for a hatchery chick with the crest and the fluff, for sure! Looks like an awful lot of gold leakage around the chest and hackles, though. Very pretty bird!
