I love giving mine watermelon too but every time I do it brings swarms of ants YIKES not good for the chickens . I really love the new paint colors that are being developed now. I hope to have a nice trio of some one day. Cute birds you have . I have some partridges too of different shades and love watchimg them change from chickmunk chicks to adults.
Awww, what a sweetie. I also had 4 splash babies hatch completely white. I was kind of worried for the first few weeks that maybe they were accidently from the white silkie pen. When they started getting their "splash" coloring in, they quickly became everyone's favorites (even my DH who usually just puts up with my chicken obsession).![]()

Here's a baby picture of my BBS hatchlings. Notice, not a spot on the four splash in the center! I'll have to post a new photo of the 4 splash-they look so different.
By the way, Peeps Blessed, notice "Fluffy" on the left side who became my "partridge". I really need to get a new picture of her (Well, she seems like a "her"). She is getting so many brown feathers, that we changed her name to Cinnamuffin!
Sandy is a partridge. That will turn into a beautiful birds. I love the partridges because they change so much as they grow its so fun to watch. Take lots of pictures of your growth . It fun later to look back and see to quick changes as they grow into adults.Later you might want to check out this forum. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/526271/partridge-silkies-nothing-elseMy babies are almost 2 weeks old! I can't believe how much they've grown in such a short time.
(Sandy, Vern, and Raven)
Since everyone is asking the pros some questions, I figured I would join in :0) I was wondering the colors of my girls (specifically Sandy because she's so much different looking than the other two)
Thanks for any info!
Ok, time to trim my Silkies eyes. I am really nervous about doing this. Everyone says use the blunt kind of scissors..but aren't they dull? I guess I am thinking of the young kids kind they use in school. I'm thinking, two people to hold her down. Poor thing, I throw out treats, she just stands there and stares at the ground to wait for one to fall in front of her. I separated the feathers yesterday, and yes, they need to be trimmed! Any other suggestions besides the type of scissors?
Cute babies!! You're mystery chick may be a light blue partridge or splash partridge. It will likely do a lot more changing in color before it's done so you'll have to do some waiting.I have this chick that is an array of colours.

Thanks! I'm getting all kinds of colours out of these guysCute babies!! You're mystery chick may be a light blue partridge or splash partridge. It will likely do a lot more changing in color before it's done so you'll have to do some waiting.
Looks like an off color partridge (maybe blue partridge) that will likely get more of a true partridge look as it ages. Very pretty color!!
