Silkie thread!

I guess I should have stated that I didn't think it looked like bumble foot, but I didn't think that Iodine foot soak and atibiotic ointment would hurt.
no, probably nothing at this point will hurt it. I think it's beyond that. I don't know if chickens can have penicillin or not, but I would be injecting it with something. Which is why I think a vet visit might be best to figure out what drug to use.

My girl started copying my Roo today, I thought I was losing my mind when I heard two crows! Poor little confused gal heehee maybe I should put a lil bow on her to remind her shes a girl.

My Silkie coop has the attached covered run, hardware cloth on the sides plus an apron of hardware cloth all the way around. Mine has just the dirt/grass floor but it doesn't seem to get that wet with the rain so mud has not been a problem. I don't have roosts in the coop since my guys all sleep in the puppy piles, although they love to play on the roosts out in their run (both large rocks and pvc roosts). Their nest boxes are on the floor of the coop, too.

That is great looking!! Something to work towards!!
X2 Hardware cloth is the best! It's what I use. Just buy in bulk and save some money. Orschlens is the cheapest I've found it locally. Lowes carries it, but the farm stores are often cheaper and carry it in larger rolls.
Thanks for all the coop responses! I had more "multi-quotes" but they didn't come up, but thanks for each one.

The little chick that almost bled to death when it pushed out of its shell is getting stronger. But, I noticed yesterday that one of its little legs was stuck outward, like it couldn't walk on it. It may be splayed, though I'm not sure why, other than it was so weak for over 12 hours it may have laid with that leg awkwardly for some time. I have it in hobbles since last night, hoping it will improve, but it seems to just keep falling forward and to the side. It also seems to barely have a peep, very hoarse sounding...it is so much better, but anyone have suggestions? How long will splayed leg last, ususally? I've been giving it poly-vi-sol laced sugar water and it is eating and pecking at others....I just feel so bad for it and hope it ends up normal.

I have never had splayed leg but I think it's usually treated for a week. Your a good mom!!

What kind of coops do you all have for your Silkies? Do you have a covered run? Not just with predator protection, but also from the rain? And, do you have a solid floor for the run, so their feet don't get soaked in the rain? We want three adult pens and one grow out pen....any suggestions or if you have pics, that would be better. I need something very economical to build. We have the large plastic dog kennels and lots of shingles. Oh, the area will be shaded most of the time. Is that a good idea?
I know this is probably an irritating set of questions, I've searched and looked at so many coops and plans, but want to do what's best for my Silkies.

Someone I know builds her coops up off the ground using a piece of 4x8 plywood as the base. She encloses a section for the actual coop...and the rest is a wired run. I really like her coops since you don't have to bend down to the ground to handle the birds or to feed/water/clean.

I'm not sure if that made sense...the coops are almost on stilts... with the plywood as the base of the coop enclosure and run.

are you sure you have a girl? Sounds like you have two boys! Unless that bird is laying you eggs each day, I think it's getting it's little boy groove on.

Thanks all... I'm in Jacksonville, FL. I have put them on Craigslist, and so far no good. I contacted my local 4H club, and will be contacting FFA as well. I just want them loved and well taken care of. Hope you all are having a great weekend. :)
