- sold all my extras and cut back to the best I had. Has made a hude difference, cheaper to feed and way more fun with a manageable number of birds

Haha! I have 30 Silkies too I'm looking to re-home some of the cockerels I hatched this year in preparation for the winter I will need their pen.

I am so disappointed. Today while I was looking over my silkie babies I noticed that my favorite little one has a fused 6 th toe on one foot. I can clearly see an extra nail and pad on the 5th toe. How likely is this to pass on and should I not breed it at all?

Almost all the serious breeders who post on here have said they do not breed birds with extra toes or even an extra nail. It's a difficult decision when it's your best bird. I would not do it but maybe someone has been successful and will respond.

It's hard to say how likely it is. It can happen with parents with perfect feet. I have a nice little pullet that has it as well. Judges didn't even notice it at all

If he/she is otherwise magnificent, I would use it. You will get a percentage of six toed chicks, but it may be worth it this bird has fantastic type. Since it is a chick you won't know for a while how good it is. If it turns out to have so-so type sell it as a pet.

Ok sorry to jump in out of nowhere but this is my first day with sikies just got 27 mixed sikies from ideal to day sooo excited but got one question how do i know what colors i have
