Thanks Peepblessed. Wow there is just so much to learn about Silkies/chickens.Yes, it would be a disqualification. A hen should optimally be 32 oz. A few over or under is acceptable. Sonoran recently posted this great info:
Weight - 20% more or less than the states weight is a DQ. 20% of 36 oz is
7.2 oz, so a cock weighing less than 28.8 oz or more than 43.2 oz should be
disqualified. A bird closer to the prescribed weight should place over one
that is of equal quality, but farther from the weight. The standard is a bit
unclear on a bird that is closer to, but above the weight versus one who is
farther from, but below the weight (equal quality).
•Cocks: 36 oz
•Hens: 32 oz
•Cockerels: 32 oz
•Pullets: 28 oz
its not that u shouldn't its just causeing my white silkies to get yellow in themI just feed Layer pellets, I didn't know you shouldn't feed silkies corn???
Now that is a good question! From the little bit of research I've done....it looks like typical chicken feed may consist of 75% corn and 15%+ soy. I'm going to explore this further.what do u guys feed show silkies that dosent have corn nor marigold extract or what do u mix so there is no corn or marigold extract in it ?
Awwwww!! So cute!
