Silkie thread!

Quick question.....What is the average age silkies start to lay??

For mine 7 months and over.

Yep, one of mine started at 6 1/2 months and the other started at exactly 7 months.

I was surprised (and thrilled) because people told me not to expect them to start until they were at least 8 months old. I guess there are some silkies that start much later....like a year old..........

My white Silkie was hatched Dec. 11, 2011 and it still hasn't laid an egg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's already 9 months old!
Patience is wearing thin LOL I just want to hatch some white silkie chicks!
Ayda
PS Do some Silkies never lay?????????????

Hello again, Wow catching up on the reading. I was gone for a couple of days and everybody is so chatty. :D :p I love all the pictures of the baby chicks and the adult chickens.

My dog is afraid of baby chicks and chickens too. But she does love to eat the poo. :p Shadow is Titus a chocolate? I have never seen a silkie that color. He is very striking.

I can't remember all but loved the picture of the silkie taking a bath and the baby partridge.

idahobird some of the silkies you got look very nice. I don't know much about color genetics but do you think the light roo with the orange on his wings is porcelain? ? Is there a lavender gene in that? But you need two genes to produce lavender then I think. I am sure glad you got them so you can give them a better life. I woukld be a bit warry of the blindness. Could it be a symptom of something? Can you tell if they are truly blind?

Thank you.

Tell me how you picked the birds for the swap. I have several chicks that are roos that I need to part with but they are so sweet and beautiful. It's next weekend & I just don't think I can do it. Is the swap you're going to more like an action? The one I'm talking about is an auction & I just don't think I could see my little roos up there like that. I may continue to advertise online & locally.

okay so! My friend is contemplating selling her Cockerel. He is starting to crow and she is afraid he might disturb the neighbors, but he is quiet enough that her husband wants to try keeping him. So my question is, with these pictures, how much would you all pay for him? I want to see what she COULD get for him if she decided to sell him. He is a GORGEOUS bird! If I had a house I told her I would snatch him for a breeding project in a heartbeat! He is local from a show stock. He was actually from paint eggs, so he could be het. for paint and he would make a great breeding/show bird! He is about 5/6 months, super sweet, jet black with slight emerald hue around his hackles.

Tiki244 I am hoping for a good hatch too. I am beside myself with excitement and can't wait to be the proud momma and show off with pictures soon. The funny thing is most everyone uses a bator and they can see the eggs pipping. My eggs are under Lacy and there is no way she is going to stand up and let me take a look. So I guess I just wait and watch for fluffy little chicks running around in the cage

I really wish there was someway to see the pipping as I've never seen an chick hatch.
