Silkie thread!

Thought I would share a few pictures of my Silkies. I am so much enjoying my return to the Silkie world :) The next year is going to be so much fun with the babies growing up and watching my flock mature. here are a few pics of my new start! Im starting out with way too many boys LOL! 4 of the first 5 I bought ended up being cockerels. I hope a bunch of these babies are pullets.

Love your partridge boy! Gorgeous color!!

Feathersprings and aoxa, your silkie pictures are so sweet!

Today is only Day 3, so I'll check tonight for development.

aoxa I LOVE that your poodle is good with the birds! I wish mine would be!!! I've had a couple incidents where they have gotten into where the birds are ranging and thought it was great fun to chase them and scare them half to death!!! I need Caesar to help me de-stimulate them to the birds!
All these beautiful Silkie pics are making me drool!!!

They make me want to seek out more of good quality, but I would need to make a separte coop I think. I only have 1 blue cockeral (sweetest guy ever) and 3 white babies, who are 2wks old. The cockeral is integrating in with the LF girls and my Japenese Bantam roo but he is certainly lowest on the totem pole even though he is older than all of them. I would really like to see him assert himself just a little!

My dogs ignore the adult birds completely, and my poodle LOVES chicks. She mostly loves chick poo. :sick - but she has a very heavy maternal instinct. She fostered two kittens that were dumped on the side of the road. She's great with animals. Just doesn't like new people :)

Hello All! I am new to keeping chickens. I currently have 2 silkies and I am getting two more. I just want to make sure the make-do coop I am using now will be big enough for the four of them! We are planning on building a bigger more efficient coop in the early spring. The coop enclosed section where my two sleep now is about 2ft x 2ft with a run off of it that is open that measures about 8 ft long...then we have the bigger section for them to roam in that is about 8 ft. x 8 ft. I know they don't need much room but I just want to be sure so they are happy & healthy!!

Yep, one of my three dogs is like that. He hates other animals (besides our chickens and the animals that belong to us). He is my best bud. I just love that dog to death. I had to go out before dark last night, and wouldn't be back until after dark - and we've had a raccoon around our property. I tied him up near the coop door, and everyone was safe. Koda chases off raccoons like a champ! My hero!

Okay so I have a few baby pictures of 3 of my 7 - 1 week old silkie chicks. The other four look like these three, so that's why there are just 3 different chicks in these pictures

That is so adorable!

I'm thinking I might try incubating some Catdance Silkie eggs next year. I only have 1 silkie now and he is a Cockerel, but is so sweet. He is just now finding his crowing voice and will be 9 months old in 2 weeks. I want to get him some Silkie friends, but I have to wait til next year. Any recommendations as far as incubators go? Do you all use one for incubating and then use a different one for when they hatch? Any information would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Shyla
