Well I recently found an ad on Craigslist for some show quality silkies and have been back and forth with the lady about what I can offer her for them. Well we finally came to an agreement and I went and picked them up today. No doubt some are definitely high quality birds she said they are form these lines..Eddie Travers -Snowglobe Silkies, Hat Trick Silkies and Indigo Egg Silkies. Well we loaded them up and I kinda glanced at them but didn't examine them very well just because she seemed to be a knowledgeable bird breeder. When I got them home I was horrified at what I found their condition to be in. This is what most of their feet looked like+

And one of the males has alot of mite eggs on his face too and I swear alot of them are blind. I know silkies don't see well but a couple won't even respond to hand movement in front of their face I am not sure what I should do I definitely am glad I got them out of there and now I can get them cleaned up and de loused and give them a better home but I feel like I should say something to her. She doesn't have any other birds so I am not worried about any other she has being kept in this kind of condition.

Here are the pics of them.

Idahobird it looks like she got overwhelmed and couldn't really care for them anymore. So sad to have them in such deplorable condition. I'm glad that you, not really knowing, rescued those babies as some of them are quite striking to me. I'm glad you are going to take care of them and bring them back to health and happiness. Blessings Cindy

This sweet girl won't eat, drink, or poop unless I kick her out.  She is a dream broody hen and usually very sweet although she pecked me tonight with the move, I don't blame her one bit :barnie .  Is there anyway to know if they need help out because of shrink wrap or is it a loose loose situation?  When I moved the eggs and her tonight into the rabbit cage I noticed one of the eggs had a gray patch on it that wasn't there before.  What could that be from?  Is it the chick trying to break through?

I sooooooo appreciate you helping me out this way!!!  I'm sorry about your eggs ~ that has to be so hard.  I'm glad you have two miracle babies to brighten your day.  My husband and I just can't fathom how creative our Creator is.  We marvel at all He has made.  Blessings, Cindy
The grey patch could just be dirt - doubt it is a baby trying to hatch since it is day 14. Shrink wrapped is something you probably won't have to worry about with a broody. I help them if they've pipped and are shrink wrapped, but have only had ONE live if internally pipped and shrink wrapped, but didn't externally pip. She is 16 weeks old now - and very healthy. Some take so long to zip that their membrane dries out, and I will help these as well. I have never ended up with a deformed chick because of it. They are all healthy and thriving.

Sounds like a wonderful broody! My girl that has taken over duty has only been sitting on these well developed eggs since Monday. They will hatch way before she has been broody for her allotted time. She is that trust worthy. Last hatch she was only sitting for a week. Took those chicks like she's been doing it all her life! My little Pearl :love
