Silkie thread!

okay so! My friend is contemplating selling her Cockerel. He is starting to crow and she is afraid he might disturb the neighbors, but he is quiet enough that her husband wants to try keeping him. So my question is, with these pictures, how much would you all pay for him? I want to see what she COULD get for him if she decided to sell him. He is a GORGEOUS bird! If I had a house I told her I would snatch him for a breeding project in a heartbeat! He is local from a show stock. He was

I'm not an expert but he looks pretty good from what you can see in these pictures.
BUT, this picture is priceless!! Just the way he is standing there, looking up.

It's like he's saying "Yo. What's up?"

Do not, under any circumstances, buy an incubator!!!!

You will be hooked and spend the rest of your life with your nose pressed to the little window. I've even been known to take an incubator with me on vacation with an adapter so it can be plugged into the cigarette lighter in the car.

Chicks are magic, put in an egg and get out a chick

Good one! lol I have been thinking about getting an incubator also... But so far what's putting a stop in my purchase is the fact that I don't want to spend the money yet because I'm not hatching that many chicks YET. lol And why spend the money when I have hens that'll hatch for free?

And that's more exciting anyway, I think. And! I live on a large farm where I work, so I don't want to get myself in tons of trouble if I start hatching tons of chicks. We wouldn't have the space.

Some day!! Some day it'll happen.

WOW! I have so much to catch up on after being gone for a week!!!

In the meantime...I have this roo that was hatched out in mid-May who has some serious silver leakage in his hackles. Just a very slight peppering everywhere else. I was thinking, just for fun, to put him in with my black showgirl hen and a blue silkie hen to see what I would get (mini project pen?). Any ideas? I also have a partridge pen...would he be of any value in there? Tough to tell his quality since this pic was taken when he was coming down from a crow and his head feathers are a bit matted from mist...of course, if it is better to just sell him as pet quality I definitely will. Although I kinda like his color

From a breeding standpoint, leakage is not desirable, even though it is pretty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hello again, Wow catching up on the reading. I was gone for a couple of days and everybody is so chatty. :D :p I love all the pictures of the baby chicks and the adult chickens.

My dog is afraid of baby chicks and chickens too. But she does love to eat the poo. :p Shadow is Titus a chocolate? I have never seen a silkie that color. He is very striking.

Titus is a partridge :D

WOW! I love your partridges! The one in the avatar is very nice too!!o!!

At the swap I bought a pair of buffs  But I really like them. Will have to post pictures later. The boy has black in his tail but I don't mind. The girl is light buff. They seem very sweet.

I like his body. :p :D ;) I love the silver hackles. I would consider buying him as a pet, Depends on where you live I guess. I live in Wisconsin.

We built a new pen for my white teens. They're getting close to 4 months old and their 'voices' are starting to deepen :)

That is a super pen. Is it full time? I see there is a dog in there.

I was wondering if my silkies got bored and your pen reminded me of that, It looks like they have a toy in there and a pear. Does anyone provide toys for them or anything so they don't get bored?

Chickster I hate swaps. I rarely go and wish I hadnt gone today. I doubt if I could deal with an auction at all. I just tried to weed out the birds that i thought I could not use in my breeding program the best I could. I have advertised on craigslist and been able to 'screen' the people somewhat I want to sell to and it is much better that way.

Today was a bad day. I sold one pair of bantam leghorns only and then later walked around and found out that the person who got them had chickens that were in very poor shape. I feel so bad for my poor leghorns chickens but is too late to do anything. I am vowing to not go to any more swaps or auctions. Then I lost $20 somehow on top of it.

I did get a pair of buff silkies though but am still sick about my poor leghorns.

cinersga it is exciting. Mama will probably sit pretty tight while they are hatching and afterward for a day or so. I am sure she will do a good job though. When I first started using an incubator I was just too nosey and wasnt good for the chicks hatching. It is very hard to just sit on your hands and watch them hatch in an incubator. lol At least for me. Im

Are silkies harder to hatch then other breeds? Or do they take longer? I have Am. and silkie eggs in the bator at the same time. am. hatched, but so far no silkies, only one day late so far though.
