Silkie thread!

saw somebody wrapped whole bales of hay around an eggloo to keep in warmer in winter high enough to put one bale on top..we have round bales here. I thought you could just unroll the big bales on ground and wrap it round. pic is an old post card bigger than eggloo but you get the idea
this idea would work great for a dogloo type house

I worked with them last night and all went up the ramp except one of the new ones! I used meal worms & oatmeal and it seemed to work pretty well. I also made a "lid" for my run so now I can access all the girls no matter where they are. Made things much easier. I think after a few more nights they will be pro's before I know it! Thanks so much for feedback & your coop is great! I can't wait until spring time again here in PA so I can build a bigger coop. I have become a crazy chicken lady in a matter of 3 months

Love them!

Another question for everyone...does anyone take your chickens in your home at any time? I was thinking about in the winter time letting mine camp out in the basement/family room area of our house because I want to still be able to work with them in the winter months so they stay friendly??!!

Against my husband's wishes, I bring my birds in the house if we have a storm warning (Hurricane/tornado) or if they are sick. I occasionally bring them in for mini photo shoots too, but those only last an hour at the most. I know of some folks that raise chicks and keep one or two in a pen pocket while they do house/yard work, it keeps them warm and forms a mother-ish type bond with the birds, I have personally never done this, but have had chicks raised like that and they follow me everywhere!

Wow, you guys are busy on this thread..it's been a while..and look at what I see..this beauty!
My blue splash is squatting for me now. I am waiting for that egg. The white silkie will be soon after her.
Peep knows my blue splash by now. How ya doin peep? Hope your health is better. I want a silkie this color now. I have some eggs in that may come out paint. Crossing fingers..would love to have a paint.

I am doing a little better all the time. Thanks for asking! I do love his color but he shouldn't have the black. I will likely breed him to my lav pullet when she matures. Can't wait!! :)

Last winter I brought a polish in. She was not taking the cold well and passed away after being inside for a month. She was old I believe. I really couldn't tell you. She was my first chicken, and that breeder really pulled the wool over my eyes.

I made her a diaper ;)

But typically I don't bring them in.
