I am wondering if the judges just started placing birds that are more like our current silkies of today and then the standard changed. Mind you this is just speculation. :/
Sguishypuff That sounds like a really nice flock you will be getting. exciting
Well I have been at the computer doing picture control most of tonight. Seems my pictures have been multiplying like rabbits in here.
That is so funny aoxa I have to laugh when I hear your stories about the rabbits. (I know how those chickens act it is hilarious)
Thanks for the comments about the chicks.
I need a name for this fella. He is one. I decided to bring him inside and do a little photo shoot. He is molting Half his tail feathers are gone.. His earlobe is a nice blue but you can't see it in the picture. He didn't think too much of the pumpkin.

His mom is Bonnie and his dad was Clyde. He is really sweet too. Any ideas? I was kinda thinking of a plain man name,,,,or? Coby? Clipper? na
Cute chicks Chickengirl47.

O My Gosh that chick IS big!
I am not sure if it is her down fluff that makes her look so big, but she doesn't weigh as much as my Easter Egger chicks. We'll see how big she will turn out full grown. I am saying SHE because it's good luck, isn't it? Doesn't calling a bird 'she' enough make it a girl?

That chick is about the same size as my large fowl Welsummer chick.
Very pretty chicky, though. Thank you for sharing. =)
Also, I recently read this article, very interesting and somewhat creepy in my opinion. Now I'm scared to pet her little head, which is a bummer, because she really likes it. =/ http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Article/HoleInHead.html
Dont give up yet. I have a little partridge pullet who's favorite game every few minutes is to find someone to chest bump with. Fingers crossed for you
I'm hoping! The little one is the one who instigates it, so maybe she just likes to bump up to the other 'female' to see who is top female? Here's hoping those two are female

Well in that case maybe I will keep doing it. I'm extremely gentle with her, a heck of a lot more gentle than her pecky-peck sisters are, anyway! Naughty little things. I keep scolding them, but they only stop long enough to turn and give me that "indignant" look. She gets them back though, because the second they turn away she's pecking their little bottoms.
There were other questions I have, sorry:
- how far up from the bottom of the coop floor should roosts be for Silkies?
- what should their measurements be?
- Anything specific that Silkies need that other breeds don't need?
We have an awesome chicken coop on order - but I think it's mainly made for standard sized chickens in regard to the roosting....not sure if I need something different for smallies like Silkies?
Lastly - is there ANY way to sex a Silkie before it lays an egg or crows? =( I did the wing feather test and they're sporadic in length (some are long, some are short, etc) but I heard you can't use that for Silkies. I'm nervous, because we can only have hens. I don't want to love her too much and then have to say goodbye.
