Well...and I was sure this one is a boy.I never see red on the girls at 10 wks. but I do have a couple of splash girls with red wattles and dark comb. Can say when the red showed up. I usually see my girls showing "S" type stance earlier than the boys. I thought the Catdance girl in my avatar was a boy till 4 months.
I couldn't make heads or tails of that wing photo! Those toes are not serious. Try to breed to a girl with better split.
if you want silkied use nest box place then on floor a rabbit nesting box works great but most time silkies just pick place they want to lay there eggs and so it there ive only had one showgirl nest off the groundDo silkies use nest boxes that are about 6" off the ground? Or only if they're on the ground? How high could they be -- 12" max maybe???/
Also, I have 2 young cockerels. Three - four months old. One has been crowing a few weeks and it is loud and is the typical cock-a-doodle-doo song. Crows as loud as my Ameraucana boy.
The other one started about 3-4 weeks ago and is less vocal and when he does crow, it is more of a "eh-eh-eh-ehh" all garbly and crackly. It sound like he has a bit of a frog in his throat he doesn't have much of a "song".![]()
Might he be a quieter boy with less of a crow? Might he just not be able to crow real loud? Do any of your boys have an "off" song and just not much of a crower?
My other boys did have feeble attempts at first, but within a week were doing it pretty well. Had the "song" down and started getting louder. This one is still not able to make much noise and it is not the typical sound of a rooster. And he cannot belt it out!
And it's been a good few weeks now with no "improvement" [much to my great liking as this means he might be able to stay!!!]
He's my favorite.![]()
Any similar experiences???
Thanks!![]()
I agree. Maybe the bottom could be a cockerel, I see a few wispys. Hard to tell right nowboth look like girls to me

I got my ideas from others here on this site. don't know why some of the pics loaded up sideways. I spent a pretty penny building it, but its better than store bought in my opinion. last hatch was 25 of 28 eggs, silkie anyways, I have had trouble with other chicks. think it must be my other chickens eggs/fertile.

Really nice bator and brooder!! My husband built mine for me and I just love it! I call it my "cat TV"! That is the best hatch I've ever heard of from shipped eggs!!
Those eggs were not shipped, they were from my Silkies. I am getting 4-8 eggs per day, they are really pumping them out lately. I only have about 10-12 hens, I quit counting
