Silkie thread!

Question guys on my new lil silkie chick(will try and get some pics tomorrow) hen is a splash and the roo is a partridge, she looks like a splash right now, white and grey if she will look more like a partridge when would the rust color show up or would it be present at birth, so far she just looks splash.

Hi there, I have a question for my fellow silkie owners. I have a mixed flock and I ended up with a buff beautiful silkie roo. Unfortunately, he seems to be very agressive especially towards my salmon favorelle He is beautiful but do others find their roos to be pretty agressive or is mine an exception to the rule??

Has anyone had issues with silkies raising other chick breeds? I thought that some people used silkies specifically for that purpose... correct?
I ask because I had slipped three ameraucana eggs under my girls along with their own eggs and they killed one as soon as it hatched and I
managed to save the second one as they were all attacking it. At first I thought it was because they were black, but they hatched a gray silkie and
didn't attack it. So now I have two chicks in the house. Grrrr....
Anyone have any ideas? Aside from racism? lol

Splash down pattern looks nothing like partridge down pattern. Do you have photos?

Aggressive towards other males, or aggressive to people, too? While silkies are not a noted aggressive breed, there are always individual personalities that didn't read the book on that. And sometimes it has to do with teenage hormonal surges and/or the way they were raised. Can you give some specific behavior instances?

You have silkies sharing a nest? Or a broody silkie in with the general population? I have had very BAD luck and killed chicks in both these scenarios. I will no longer let broodies share a nest, and I either pen the hen separately or take eggs away if the nest is in with the rest of the birds.

Also, how long before hatching did you give them the eggs? That could make a difference.

I've had wonderful experiences. Though only silkies shared a nest.. once.. The other times they set separately, but co-raised chicks. My little lesbians.

Another instance of co-parenting. The silkie would attack the barred rock hen occasionally

Why can't you eat them? They make great quiche

Not a fan of eggs unless it's with a breakfast meal. Like bacon, eggs, and home fries. But I do love a quiche

I've lost my taste for eggs, too. My husband eats large eggs from his friend- but won't eat the Silkie eggs. I don't eat them at all.
