Silkie thread!

Hello every one,
I am new to chickens especially the oriental breeds. A lady down the street was getting rid of all her chickens. I thought I would up a few cheap chickens just to have for the kids. I already have my laying chickens and just wanted something fun for the kids. I picked up three bantam silkie hens. They were hatched Mar 2012 so not quite a year old yet. The problem is that I do not think that all three are silkies. I hope you all can give me a little insight to what I may have. Thanks.

The white one has four toes and is yellow skinned. Has small single comb and feathers along side her legs.

The black and white hens look to be the same type of chicken. The black one four toes and yellow skin. Has single comb and feathers along side her legs as well.

All three together

The tan one (Buff I think) has five toes and black/blue skin. She has a walnut comb and feathers along side her legs that looked as if they were plucked and are now growing back in.

First two look like cochins or cochin/silkie mixes, the last is a VERY pet quality silkie. But they are cute =) Are you certain the silkie is a female? how big is her comb? can you get a picture of the front of her face?

It was born March. I think it's definitely a hen. Close to laying as well. My silkie cockerels are showing a lot of hackles/saddles at 6 months (born late May).

He is gorgeous! I know the chickens I picked up will never be show quality or even the breed standard but I hope the silkie will eventually fill out to look half as good as your roo, he is just too pretty.

Thank you very much :)

He's still got a way to go. His crest has been pin feathers for quite some time, but I think he has potential. I like his dark skin and comb. He's a gentleman too. 6 months old and no crowing or mating though!

Ok Silkie peeps, I will be popping in from now on. I just got 4 one and a half week old Silkies from Marge Best for my DW today. She fell in love with one at the fair this summer and have been working to get them since. Nice early Christmas present. One Dark Blue or Black, she couldn't really determine. A Paint, a Porcelain and a Partridge. Yay

So I have another sick chicken Big Mama Henrietta.... thinking definitely Marek's at this point. Desperately hoping this doesn't take out my whole flock :'( Any advice from you pros out there? I am absolutely heartbroken!!!
