we only had ours for a short time. love love this breed

I did last night and no injury :/ I am thinking she may have Marek's... ugh.  I am at a loss for what my next step should be...?  She recoils her legs if I pull and no apparent breaks, she eats and drinks if you put it in from of her and seems otherwise ok.  Do I need to put her down?  What is the risk to my small children if any, since I have had her in my house with all of us at the moment??  Thanks for any and all feedback I really don't wanna destroy her if there is ANY chance she will recover!

Meraks isn't contagious to people, just other birds. If it is Meraks and she lives she will be a carrier the rest of her life, like a Typhoid Mary. You will have to be sure every new bird you get has been vaccinated. But even that isn't 100%. :/ Hope it isn't Meraks but the only true way to tell is a necropsy so... :(

I have heard that egg binding and constipation can cause lameness too, and I had 2 birds with these same symptoms. One died, I think she had a blockage, the other one I still have but I think she was just very dehydrated.

We have been mite free for 2 weeks! FINALLY!!!! Has anyone heard of using garlic powder in the feed to prevent mites? Anyone have a sure fire way to prevent them? All of the birds have been put into the barn for the winter now that I have nailed the mites. I was getting tired of constantly breaking the ice in the waterers. A water heater may be on the list of things to pick up before spring when they go on sale. :) Everyone is VERY happy in he barn. I am pretty excited about using the pens for the babies in the spring, once the breeding crew goes back out to the coop. My white pen has started to lay and I have a doting rooster in there...he's a good boy and pretty. Of coarse the show ladies aren't laying, only the breeders, but I am anxious to see what the chicks from these ladies look like.
